Optical 19 inch transmitter

Optical transmitters are used to convert HF broadcast signals to optically modulated signals for transmission over a fiber optic link. The signals are usually analog TV, all types of digital TV, and data transmissions using the DOCSIS standard. Transmitters are subdivided - depending on the application and transmission requirements.

Long distances are transmitted with modulated transmitters, shorter distances with the cheaper directly modulated transmitters. Transmitters are available in different wavelength ranges, 1310nm or 1550nm or DWDM wavelengths. Applications are TV services with RF overlay for FTTH/FTTB networks, or transmission of DOCSIS and TV service in HFC networks with TV and cable modem applications.

General advantages of optical fibre technology

  • maximum signal transmission bandwidth for broadband services with minimum losses
  • simultaneous transmission of several services
  • signals can be transmitted over long distances with low attenuation; larger building complexes can be supplied via a central receiving antenna, which can be installed in an inconspicuous place
  • low installation effort due to the use of pre-assembled cables (compared to coax technology, significantly less cabling effort)
  • good electromagnetic shielding: optical fibres can be laid together with electrical cables in a cable duct
  • highest reliability; corrosion resistant and resistant to chemicals
  • resistant to environmental influences
  • galvanic isolation of optical fibers makes potential equalization unnecessary (required in coax networks)
