ASTRO System Technology News
ANGA COM 2022 is getting closer. Reason enough to give you an outlook on our topics in this and the next newsletter.
  • We have built up an extremely strong headend family with the U 159 series. Application: For the optimal conversion of IP signals into QAM, for example in cable networks or at public utilities. Our outdoor unit U 259-O is extremely robust and has all connections in the front area.
  • Last we introduced the QAM BOX eco AACFM with special AAC FM encoder. Together with the HDIQ 4 encoder, up to 4 HDMI signals can be converted to DVB-C additionally.
  • Optical system technology is the future. We do not only offer systems, but also a variety of tools that are needed to handle them.
And of course we have even more technology. Just check out this newsletter and the next one. And even better: visit us at ANGA (Hall 8, Booth A30) .

We would like to invite you to do so. Simply draw a visitor ticket on the ANGA website with the voucher code below.

Hope to see you at the ANGA COM!!

Ultra dense solutions for Cable Operators and City Carrier
For the transmission of IP signals into QAM ASTRO has developed the modulator U 159 and further devices based on it. Up to three U 159 modules can be installed in a U 100-230 or U 100-48 base unit. A U 259-O is based on the U 159, but is a stand-alone 19 inch rack unit with one optical output. All connections of the U 259-O are located at the front of the unit, which fits perfect for the use in an outdoor cabinet.

A U 159 allows reception of up to 256 IP signals (MPTS/SPTS, VBR/CBR) and conversion to up to 64 QAM output channels. The output frequencies can be configured as desired. By default, one data port is enabled for receiving IP signals and 16 QAM output channels. With additional licenses 64 QAM output channels are possible, 4 data ports as well as extensive multiplexing and redundancy functionality for input signals. Further features are RADIUS (Client-Server-Protocol), TLS (Transport Layer Security), FEC (Forward Error Correction).

A U 159-S offers even more power (CPU and extended memory), which allows smooth encryption (scrambling) of output signals. Special model U 159-B is delivered from the factory with Annex B, instead of Annex A,C as usual. The other parameters remain the same. The U 159-D is prepared for monitoring output signals.

Power team: compact head-end with HDMI converter
Licenses for U-technology from ASTRO
A hotel TV network can also be set up via a QAM BOX eco AACFM compact head-end. Here, incoming DVB-S2 signals are processed and converted into DVB-C signals. With the HDIQ 4 encoder, up to 4 HDMI signals can additionally be converted into DVB-C. This is possible by combining the respective QAM BOX models with an HDIQ 4 converter. The QAM BOX has 4 SAT inputs for up to 16 QAM channels, offers a service filter, NIT generation and LCN processing. The AACFM version includes an AAC FM encoder for converting 16 x DVB-S to 16 x QAM and 16 x FM (MPEG and AAC).

The HDIQ 4 encoder has 4 HDMI inputs, a DVB-C output, an IP output (4 x SPTS, 1 x MPTS) processes MPEG 2 and 4 video encoding and offers top signal parameters (MER ≥ 42 dB, output level up to 97 dBµV).

Let‘s start with optical systems technology
Everyone is talking about optical transmission paths. Many network operators are already using only fiber technology for new construction projects. This is reason enough for the trade and crafts sector to get involved in this topic and to be able to offer this service to their own customers.
Price list for system technology 1-2021 FTTH Toolcase
The basic equipment certainly includes a glass fiber service case (for cleaning and inspection). The ASTRO Toolcase for testing and cleaning of glass fibers contains all necessary simple tools. Among other things, it can be used for testing fiber losses, for visual fault location, for inspection and for cleaning connectors.

AFS-GS60 Compact Fusion Splicer
The new compact fusion splicer from ASTRO has six motors and three axes with core centering. This makes mobile splicing easy in all FTTH contexts. It can even splice fibers in FO backbones.
The AFS-GS60 has a 5 inch TFT monitor with touch screen for easy operation. With 6 motors core centering, the compact fusion splicer is suitable for fiber types MMF/G.651, SMF/G.652, NZ-DSF/G.655, BIF/G.657, Erbium-Doped Fibre (EDF). It works with a multi-in-one fiber clamp for bare fiber, pigtail, drop cable, patch cord, etc. The AFS-GS 60 has an automatic heater for shrink protection, automatic fusion splice control and of course indicates a possible splice loss (attenuation).
